While it’s no surprise anime brings together a global fan base, it’s always interesting to find out where an anime blogger is based. Issac, author of Nest of the Fledging Otaku, brings a multi-cultural perspective to his site with his diverse background. Of Chinese descent Issac is a college student and resident of Toranto who previously lived Germany. With an interesting and worldly background, this otaku/college student is not afraid of sharing both his passions for anime and happenings in his daily life, which seem to intertwine on many occasions.

If you’re a Saber fan, then you’re in good company with Nest of the Fledging Otaku. Issac’s our featured blogger of the week, so check out his posts as they appear on our home page.
AnimeBlips: How long have you been blogging?
Issac: I have been blogging for one year and a bit over three months. I was actually dragged into the blogosphere by my friend, who persuaded me to sign up for Wordpress so we could improve our writing skills over the summer in preparation for university. Writing blog articles has grown on me quickly after that and here I am today.
AnimeBlips: What makes your blog unique?
Issac: “Unique” is a rather bold word, so I guess I'll somewhat rephrase the question and answer “what makes my blog different?”
My blog has a rather wide area of coverage. Initially it was mostly about gundams and figurines, but it expanded into others such as event coverage, anime reviews, my own pet project of translating a visual novel (I believe my blog is the only source of “Fate/Hollow Ataraxia” scenes in English) as well as a small aspect of events in my personal life. I have a rather weird sense of humor, so when I write reviews I tend to play with words and make references to things that few can see the connections of.
AnimeBlips: What kinds of stories do you prefer to watch or read when it comes to anime and manga?
Issac: All in all I tend to fall for anime with a good, reasonable story (not something utterly ridiculous with a ton of plot holes), with a nice balance of action and romance elements. I also rather enjoy watching the laws of physics being defied.
AnimeBlips: From your posts it looks like you’re a big fan of figures. How many do you have and what are you looking to purchase next?
Issac: I own 27 figurines and nine gundams, I'm ashamed to say that it's rather miniscule in comparison to the other collectors out there. My next three figurine purchases are all of Saber Lily, currently it looks like the nendoroid will be arriving first.
AnimeBlips: What’s the best experience that has come out of having your blog?
Issac: There are actually two "best" experiences for me. The first, like most other bloggers have said, is the making of new friends, both locally and across the globe. Aside from that, the aspect of blogging as a hobby had more impact in my first year of university than I would give it credit for. It was a way of relieving myself from long tiring days of being emerged in books and still gives me a sense of accomplishment. At the end of the day, it's always nice to know that I have a small fanbase in the world.
AnimeBlips: If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only have one manga series what would it be and why?
Issac: "Fate/Stay Night." Other than it being my favorite series of all times, it has special values for me as this was my first step in otakuism (a step that got me to where I am today). As a result, it also serves somewhat as an identity thing, so in case I died and my body has eroded to a state beyond physical recognition whoever finds me can deduce my identity with the presence of said anime.

Nest of the Fledging Otaku —
... Just slightly over a week ago Robyn Lass of AnimeBlips shot me an email, telling me that he wants to interview me for the featured blog of the week on AnimeBlips. Now, between line integrals and SP3 carbons this certainly is a more interesting turn of event in my current life (and at the moment I’m doing my best to not write amine or amide in place of anime).
Please do read up on my interview here. I had no idea of AnimeBlips’s existance until Mr.Optic had his success. I claimde my blog at that ...
