So you've seen a lot of footage of Japan's “life-size Gundam” in Odaiba now. But how much have you seen of the 18-meter-tall “life-size” Gigantor (or Tetsujin-28) statue in Kobe? It's probably not entirely fair to compare the projects, since the Kobe statue-- in commemoration of the city's revival after the 1995 earthquake –is a permanent fixture, and I believe one that won't have any flashy lights or other effects going on, while the Gundam, of course, is going to be short-lived but moves and lights up. Tokyo gets the 1/1 scale Gundam and Kobe gets the 1/1 scale Tetsujin 28. Tetsujin will be 18 meters tall and is in the middle of construction. Construction cost of the monument is 135,000,000 yen (1.4 million USD) with 45,000,000 yen of that being paid by the city of Kobe. The rest is being paid by donations and businesses. The monument will be completed on the 4th of October and you will be able to see it in Shin-Nagata Kobe. Video and photos below of some of the construction work going on. Gigazine has posted up some photos of the Kobe Tetsujin project, and it seems like the 1/1 scale giant robot is almost complete ^^
The project is scheduled to be completed by October and it seems like they are on schedule. Here’s a poster showing how finished statue would look like:

This is gonna be an awesome landmark in Kobe. I’m glad that it will be a permanent fixture unlike the 1/1 Gundam Statue which will be taken down soon.
